Microsoft Releases Windows 7 Pricing

Microsoft has released more details about its long awaited OS, Windows 7. The original release date is October 22 where Windows will be released in the 14 most common languages. More languages will be released on October 31. It will first be launched in Australia and New Zealand and follow the sun around the world basically.

The pricing is less than Vista thankfully and the full Ultimate version will cost AU$469 instead of the AU$799 for Vista Ultimate. But you can also buy the OEM version of Windows 7 which will be alot cheaper. This is fro people who build their own computer however. The pricing on OEMs hasn't been released but judging from Vista OEM pricing it will be huge.

Vista Ultimate cost AU$799 while the OEM version could be had for AU$280. This is a huge drop in price. Upgrade versions of Vista were more expensive than the OEM. Full Pricing is as follows:

Windows 7 Home Premium: AU$299 (Full)                          AU$199 (Upgrade)

Windows 7 Professional:  AU$449 (Full)                           AU$399 (Upgrade)

Windows 7 Ultimate: AU$469 (Full)                             AU$429 (Upgrade)

As you can see the difference between the full version and upgrade version becomes quite small when you look at the Ultimate version. Also the price difference between Professional and Ultimate is very small. I am sure most people would pay the extra $20 to get the Ultimate version.

Optus to Charge iPhone users for Tethering

Optus has decided to charge their customers $9.99 per month on top of their existing plans to use the iPhone's new tethering feature which allows the user to connect the iPhone to their computer and use the phone as a modem with their existing data plan.

This is quite a strange move as reportedly Vodafone users can use the tethering feature for free. It seems to me like a feature which you normally take for granted as it has been available for quite some time on other phones and now you have to pay for it.

Do you think this extra charge is within reason?

Sony unleashes new PSP!

The new, slimmer and lighter PSP

The new, slimmer and lighter PSP

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sony Corp unveiled on Tuesday a smaller, lighter PlayStation handled game device called the PSP Go, in a race to catch rival Nintendo in an intensely competitive mobile games arena.

Hours before, Nintendo said it sold more than 15 million units of its blockbuster "Wii Fit" fitness game, and plans an update -- the Wii Fit Plus -- later this year.

Sales of the Wii have dwarfed those of more technically souped-up and pricier rival consoles from Microsoft Corp and Sony Corp, by broadening its audience beyond hard-core video gamers.

On the second day of E3, the largest U.S. video games conference, Sony and Nintendo vied for the spotlight, a day after rival console-maker Microsoft charmed audiences with its "Natal": groundbreaking technology utilizing full-body motion-capture for gamers.

It was the first full day of the show, which is expected to draw some 40,000 game enthusiasts.

Many cheered and whooped at the press event at mere glimpses of new versions of popular games like "God of War" and "Super Mario Bros.," or at the mention of secretive ones like "Agent," which is being developed for the PS3 by the creators of "Grand Theft Auto."

Sony's PSP Go goes on sale October 1 in North America and Europe for about $249, before hitting stores in Japan November 1. It will be half the size of Sony's current PSP 3000 and 40 percent lighter, executives said.
